R U Brain Aware?: Time to Celebrate Brain Awareness Week!

By Dr. G. • Mar 15th, 2009 • Category: News

Well, we at the GGI have been counting down now for several months, and Brain Awareness Week is finally here! As a site dedicated to offering brain-based coaching and up to date news and commentary , BAW is our favorite week as it gives us a chance to tell you why we’re ga-ga about all things neurosomatic (that’s geek code for whole-brain, whole-body, whole-mind integration!)

Kicking off our celebration is the posting of “braINsight’s” winning ad for this site’s “NEWS” column, drawn from a design competition organized by yours truly, Dr. G., wearing my other hat as Adjunct Assoc. Prof at Art Center College of Design. Students were asked to conduct their own investigation of neuroscience concepts, especially those that interested them as artists/creative agents. The winning design, chosen from amongst 5 groups, was picked for coherency and clarity of message, bringing imaginative form and function into orchestrated alignment! Congratulations to the members of “braINsight” for inventing a BAW ad that reaches out to the public art large! See Better Brains for more on the competition and to learn who took honorable mention!

More Brain Awareness Week news! In the spirit of recognizing the role of the brain in creative problem-solving and expression, Doc Crockett interviews the eminent expressive arts therapist Dr. Luchia Cappacchione on right-left brain integration. For the web surfers familiar with Betty Edward’s theory of drawing on the right side of the brain or Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor’s recent “stroke of insight” story of right brain potential (reported here directly from TED 2008), Dr. Cappacchione’s practice will resonate with many.

Finally, in columns Ageless Bodies, Spacious Minds, and The Green Body Project, check out our tips for introducing greater brain awareness into all aspects of life, be it concern for aging, creating greater mental focus at work and at play, or learning to live an open source and fruitful planetary existence “off the grid!” And check out our free GGI Teleseminars for the week! Looking to thrive in this rocky economy? Mad about leading your tribe out of cultural despair? Worried about your health? Click on the “Upcoming” tab above and register for the teleseminar of your choice!

Whatever your interests, join us this week in generating discussion and great learning about the beauty and creative potential inherent in our evolving and embodied human brain. We look forward to receiving your comments and thoughts on bringing greater Brain Awareness to the global population at larger!

Synaptically yours!
