Gong Ji Kuai Le!: Happy Chinese New Year!

By Dr. G. • Feb 8th, 2010 • Category: News

As a former Fulbright Scholar to Taiwan and China, I never miss a chance to celebrate the Chinese New Year!  I can still remember the Year of the Dragon 2000 celebrated by the City of Taipei with a gigantic laser dragon sculpture towering over the teeming crowds of families in the vast quad of the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. The night was misty and wet.  Electric rays pierced the sparks flying from the little sparkler wands held by nearly every child.  Auspicious to be sure.

A harbinger of spring, a festival recognizing both the lunar and solar cycles of life, Chinese New Year comes with the added ritual bonus, namely the popular mythic forecasting of the year to come.  This year, the Year of the Tiger, is said to be marked by all of the feline qualities attributed to this powerful animal: springs to action, uses its senses and whole body intelligence to navigate a thick dark jungle of space — not a bad role model for those us looking to fine tune the channel system of our neuro-somatic radar!

To help you with fine tuning, check out the holiday blogs this week.  You’ll notice that we’re double dipping into festivities: That’s right, this week we also get to rock out on the day of love.  So clear your channel signals and get ready to click and surf:

In Better Brains, your truly waxes poetic and scientific with thoughts on “Love the Brain or Your Brain in Love?”

In Ageless Bodies, personal trainer Zamia offers heart awareness tips on how to “Love Your Heart.”

In Spacious Minds, a love note of compassion and hope for  those who are suffering in wake of the Haitian quake.

In The Green Body Project, our own Green Beacon gets us ready for spring time (and fall) with a ‘how to fall in love with growing ‘your own outdoor garden’!

Finally, in Bodies in Space Explores, take a flight of fancy and enjoy the madcap flying experiment conducted by L. A. artist Joel Tauber!

With the February fetes on the brain, I wish you and yours a terrific week ahead.  As we say in Mandarin, Gong Ji Kuai Le! Much happiness as together we face a fresh new cycle of life!

Off to teach meditation at TEDActive!  Look for my twitter messages throughout the week!

Sending the breath of life your way, with neurons sparking!
