A docile herd animal native to the grassy plains of Naboo, shaaks are rotund grazers raised for their meat by Naboo shaak wranglers.
The calm and friendly shaak is a harmless creature. Moving in herds, shaaks roam the plains of Naboo in order to find sustenance: flowers and young shoots of tall grass. Shaaks do not confine themselves to one region, and can be found in most dry areas on Naboo. Not fond of damp surroundings, shaaks avoid the numerous swamps of their home planet. The rather weak four-legged beast is rarely used as a pack animal and never as a mount, but it constitutes an excellent source of food for the peoples of Naboo. Shaak meat can be easily stored and requires little preparation before consumption.
The shaak was designed by Terryl Whitlatch to suggest a helpless grazer bred large for food, the Naboo equivalent of a sheep. They are seen briefly in one shot of The Phantom Menace as computer generated creations.
